It is waves. By that, I mean that, I like to walk as close to the water as I can and still avoid
getting wet. However, I have been caught more than once by a wave that moves like a
phantom. A phantom wave is a wave that suddenly comes farther into shore than the
others before I realize it. Another thing I like to do is pick up unusual looking rocks. At
Mora Beach, I found a rock that looks like an ice-cream cone. The cone part is dark grey.
The ice-cream part is white. I think I was really lucky to find such an odd rock. Finally, I
enjoy watching the birds. The smaller water birds scurry around looking for good things
to eat as they follow the waves that recede like retreating armies. My day at the seashore
was so beautiful and memorable.
7. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October at Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. This
eminent scientist and engineer also served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to
2007. Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam specialised in Aero-engineering from
Madras Institute of Technology. He received honorary doctorates from about 30
universities globally. He was a man of vision and innovative ideas. He always aimed at
the development of the country and is often referred as the Missile Man of India. He was
loved and respected by people so much during his tenure as President that he was
popularly hailed as the People’s President. He was a proud recipient of several awards
including the prestigious Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration in 1997. He was
awarded Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and Bharat Ratna in 1997.
