A report is the description of an event or a situation meant for a particular person or a
group of persons.
A report should have the following features:
G Correct and specific: Correct information give the readers the required information.
So, proofread your report again.
G Factual: An information becomes believable if supported by facts. So, do not include
an opinion unless it is identified.
G Objective: A good report should be objective and not subjective.
G Clear: Statements from other people may not be objective, however when you
include those statements in your reports, you need to make it clear that you are
quoting someone else.
G Light on abbreviations: Using too many abbreviations or using them inappropriately
can detract from your message and give readers the impression that you do not
know how to write.
G Precise: It means using words economically and omitting words that do not add value.
G Well structured: A simple incident report might work best if structured in
chronological order.
G Gramatically correct: Errors in grammar and punctuation can affect both the clarity
and accuracy of your report. Use the active voice as much as possible.
G Complete: A good report is complete if it covers six important questions - who?
what? where? when? why? how?

1. 7 Killed in Road Accident

Sonitpur: April 5, 20___.
Seven people including a woman were killed in a road accident involving a truck and
a Wagon R on Kolia Bhomora bridge. The ill-fated Wagon R was carrying a marriage
party from Nowgaon to Tezpur. The truck carrying industrial goods to Tezpur collided
head on with the Wagon R killing four people on the spot. The injured were
