3 3 Story Writingtory Writingtory Writing
A story is a description of imaginary people and events, which is written or told in order
to entertain.
A story can be written in the following ways:
G Story based on a moral: Here, you will be given a moral. You are required to
illustrate the story with the moral given to you. Aesop’s Fables and stories from
Panchatantra are quite useful.
G From incomplete hints: Here, you will be provided with a couple of opening
sentences. In a way, the starting of the story is given to you and you are required to
continue it with your imagination. Also you are required to end the story in the most
appropriate way you feel like.
G From given outlines: Here, you will be given the outlines of a plot and you are
required to build up the story. This should be easy and interesting. Here, you are not
required to invent the story with your imaginations. You are only supposed to fill in
the details in an attractive way.
Read the following guidelines for developing stories from given outlines:
G Write the story in past tense.
G Do not omit any point given in the outlines and also maintain the order of the points.
G Connect every part in such a way that the story is a coherent piece of good writing.
G Read the outlines very carefully and try to understand the plot of the story.
G Suggest a suitable proverb, saying or idiom as the title of the story.
G Write the story in simple language.
G Introduce conversation or dialogue wherever possible.
