Chaambali : I’m sorry, Amma. I’ll be more careful next time, shall I clear away your
plates?
Amma : Yes, then go to clean the kitchen and when you’ve finished, go and buy
me some things from the corner shop.
Chaambali : Yes, Ma.

the man more interested in them
Chaambali goes out.
Chaambali : (from outside) You! What are you doing here?

Rajkumar : But, I’ve come to see Amma.
Amma : Who is it, Chaambali? You know I don’t like you hanging round talking to

Amma : Okay, Send him in, Chaambali. And then, go and do your work.
Chaambali : Yes, Amma, go in, young man.
Rajkumar enters and greets Amma and her daughers with a Namaskar. Lambi and Moti sit
up straight when they see how good–looking Rajkumar is and how nicely dressed he is. They
smooth down their hair and straighten out the folds of their dresses and smile and generally
look coy .
Amma : (Who is also impressed) Well, young man, who are you? What do
you want?
Rajkumar : My name is Rajkumar and I come from Rajpur. Your brother–in–law Mr
Mangal is a good friend of mine. When I told him that I was coming here,
he told me about you and your beautiful daughters and asked me to look
you up.
Chaambali : (Peeping from inside) Oh! He didn’t tell me that!
Amma : Now, tell me about yourself. But do sit down first, Mr Rajkumar. What do
you do in Rajpur?
