Other Determiners
A group of words that characterise or limit the meaning of the head noun in a noun
phrase are called determiners .
List of determiners:
a. Articles : a, an, the
b. Indefinite Pronouns : some, any
c. Possessives : my, our, your, his, her, its, their
d. Demonstratives : this, that, these, those
e. Other Pronouns : much, many, few, a few, the few, etc.

1. Kindness is the virtue of mankind.
2. An aeroplane flew over just now.
G Indefinite Pronouns– Some and Any
Some is generally used in affirmative sentences.
Any is generally used only in negative and interrogative sentences.
Read the following examples:
1. She has invited some friends to her birthday party.
2. Have you any books on Indian music?
When ‘some’ is used with a countable noun in the plural, it means an unknown or
indefinite number; as –
Read the following examples:
1. Some girls were hurt.
2. Some persons always speak ill of others.
When ‘some’ is used with an uncountable noun, it means an indefinite quantity; as –
Read the following examples:
1. I bought a notebook and some paper.
2. He wants a pen and some ink.
