In English, the words, a, an and the are called articles. In fact, articles
are demonstrative adjectives which are used to point out people or
things. So, we use articles before nouns.

A and an are called indefinite articles. An indefinite article is used to point out any
person or thing
The is called the definite article. A definite article speaks about a particular person or a
thing.
