G Let us now learn the usage of Than, As ..... as.
Read the following examples:
1. Manik, Yash and Jatin all are tall boys.
2. Manik is 6 feet tall.
3. Yash is 5 feet 11 inches tall.
4. Jatin is 5 feet 6 inches tall.
We can say that:
1. Yash is taller than Jatin.
2. But Yash is not as tall as (or not so tall as) Manik.
Manik Yash Jatin
3. or, Manik is taller than Yash.
The last two sentences mean the same.
G Now, we will learn the use of Than / As me and Than / As I am .
We generally say that:
1. He is taller than me . (correct)
He is taller than I . (wrong)
2. He is as tall as me . (correct)
He is as tall as I . (wrong)
3. He is taller than I am . (correct)
He is as tall as I am . (correct)
After ‘than’ or ‘as’, it is more informal and also more usual to say me / us / him / her /
them than I / we / he/ she / they when there is no verb.
Also, we will learn the usage of The ...... the .
G The ...... the is used with two comparatives when one thing is directly related to the
other.
