             A letter   is one person’s written message to another pertaining to some matter of
             common concern.


             There are two types of letters.

                                     Formal Letters                     Informal Letters


             G     Formal letters are written for official or professional communication. They are
                   usually written in the third person, however, for business letters, first person is

                   used.

             G     Informal  letters  are  used  for  casual  or  personal  communication.  There  are

                   fewer formatting rules for informal letters than formal letters.

             Following are some examples of formal and informal letters. Read them carefully:


                                                      FORMAL LETTERS

             1.  An application to the Principal of your school asking for leave for two days

                   as you have to attend a function at your home.

                   The Principal
                   MM Public School

                   New Delhi

                   Date : 15th July, 20____

                   Subject: Leave application to attend family function.

                   Respected Madam,

                                                                                th
                   My family has arranged a family function on 25  July and my whole family is
                   going to attend that function. So, I will not be able to attend my classes on
                   those days. So, kindly grant me leave for two days. I will be very thankful to

                   you for this kindness.
