Smallest Number
Consider the following.
Form the smallest digit number using the digits 8, 3, 9, 6.
To form the smallest number, arrange the digits in ascending order.
3 < 6 < 8 < 9
Hence, the smallest number is 3689.
Procedure of forming the smallest number.
H The greatest digit is placed at ones place.
H The next smaller digit at tens place and so on till all the given digits are
finished.
H The smallest digit is placed at the highest place of the number.
Example : Form the smallest numbers using the given digits :
a. 9, 3, 4, 6 b. 8, 3, 4, 5
Solution : a. We have the digits : 9, 3, 4, 6
Arrange them in ascending order.
3 < 4 < 6 < 9
Hence, the smallest number is 3469.
b. We have the digits : 8, 3, 4, 5
Arrange them in ascending order.
3< 4< 5< 8
Hence, the smallest number is 3458.
