G The pronouns that refer back to the subject of the sentence are called reflexive
pronouns.
Read the following examples:
1. We gave ourselves plenty of extra time.
2. She cooks her food herself .
G The pronouns that are used to put emphasis on the subject are called emphatic
pronouns.
Read the following examples:
1. He hurt himself .
2. You yourself can best explain it.
G The pronouns that are used to point out something are called demonstrative
pronouns.
Read the following examples:
1. Don’t drink this .
2. These are our basket.
Now, read the following sentences:
1. This is a gift which my uncle presented me on my birthday.
2. That was the girl who helped me in completing my project.
In the above sentences, This and That are also demonstrative pronouns because these
words denote towards the objects which are described in detail. We should be certain
that the words ‘This’ and ‘That’ must have some verb just after them.
G Indefinite pronouns don’t point to particular noun. We use them when an object
doesn’t need to be specifically identified. Pronouns like someone, something, one,
anyone, anybody, nobody, either, neither, everybody, everyone, all, every, both, each
are called indefinite pronouns.
Read the following examples:
1. Everyone is here already.
2. Somebody has stolen my purse.
