             A word that stands for a noun or noun phrase in a sentence is called a

             pronoun.

             A pronoun     is used to avoid the repetition of same noun in succession.

             Read the following examples:

                  1.   Sourav lives in Kolkata.    Sourav has   Sourav’s own house.
                  2.   Seema is an intelligent girl.   Seema’s  father is a doctor.

             In  the  above  sentences,  Sourav       and  Seema      are  repeated  many  times.  It  makes  the

             sentences  awkward.  For  removing  the  awkwardness,  we  can  write  these  sentences  in
             another way.
             Read the following examples:

                  1.  Sourav    lives in Kolkata. He    has his  own house.

                  2.  Seema     is an intelligent girl. Her  father is a doctor.
