A paragraph is a group of sentences expressing a series of connected thoughts upon a
single topic. Sentences are so organised that at the end of a paragraph, they all look to be
knit into an organic whole. The idea, the theme, the argument or the main point of the
topic is sufficiently amplified in the body of the paragraph.

Now, read the following paragraphs:

1. Devotion

Doing a work sincerely with all your efforts is called devotion. Devotion means

dedication towards someone or something. Whatever you do, if it’s a good, noble idea
and you put in all your efforts for that cause it is devotion. Devotion brings happiness and
success to us. Devotion can be for anything – devotion to God, devotion to studies,
devotion to work, etc. In everyday life whatever you do, you should do it sincerely.
Devotion can be expressed in a number of ways. If you have a friend and you help him
or even put your life in trouble for him or her in times of need, that is devotion. Devotion
is a way of life of the saints and sages. They could speak to God as one could speak to a

human being. Self-realisation is attained through devotion. Devotion also means service
to the Guru with faith and patience.

2. The Role of Advertisement

In the modern age, advertisement plays a vital role in our life. Anything which is
advertised time and again, bears fruit. It pushes up the sales. It attracts plenty of
customers. When we watch hoardings, read an advertisement in the paper, get a handbill
of a watch or shoes, we are determined to try it once. All popular brands are again and

again advertised. Watch a movie in the cinema hall or at one’s home, one sees too many
advertisements. One reaches the point of boredom. These days all things get priority in
the matter of advertisement. They may be clothes, shoes, soaps, toothpastes, fans, bikes,
motor bikes, etc. all get pushed-up sale only through advertisements. The daily
newspaper is full of such advertisements. The moving buses, auto-rickshaws too can be

used to form public opinion. It is true, present day age is an age of advertisement.

3. The Beggar Problem

The beggar problem is very acute in the developing countries of the world. From morning
to evening, we meet hundreds of beggars. Some sit at the crossing. They beg in a very
