Read the following statements aloud.
1. An eight years old child has lived for about 2920 days.
2. Mt. Everest is 8848 m high.
3. A year has about 8760 hours.

Expanded Form of Numbers
In expanded form of a number, the number is shown according to the place
values of its digits.
In 2385, the place value of the digits given below :

5 × 1 = 5
8 × 10 = 80
3 × 100 = 300
2 × 1000 = 2000
Hence, 2385 = 2000 + 300 + 80 + 5
Thus, 2000 + 300 + 80 + 5 is the expanded form of 2385.
Example : Write the following numerals in expanded form.
a. 2569 b. 6056 c. 7625 d. 2048
Solution : a. The expanded form of 2569 is :
2000 + 500 + 60 + 9
b. The expanded form of 6056 is :
6000 + 50 + 6
c. The expanded form of 7625 is :
7000 + 600 + 20 + 5
d. The expanded form of 2048 is :
2000 + 40 + 8
