Addition of Money

Addition without regrouping

Example : Kanika bought a notebook for ` 80.20 and a pen for ` 15.25.

How much money did she spend in all ?

Solution : ` 8 0 . 2 0
Add paise to
+ ` 1 5 . 2 5 paise and rupees

` 9 5 . 4 5 to rupees.

Thus, Kanika spent ` 66.75 in all.

Addition with regrouping

Example : Add ` 10.85 and ` 45.40

Solution : ` 10.85 + ` 45.40 = ?

` 1 0 . 8 5

+ ` 4 5 . 4 0 Þ 85 P + 40 P = 125 P

` 5 6 . 2 5 125 P = 100 P + 25 P

= 1 rupee 25 paise = ` 1.25

Thus, ` 10.85 + ` 45.40 = ` 56.25
