Looking Back
In everyday life, we often find that things we buy have a price which is
expressed in both rupees and paise. For example, Sid has found a tie which
costs ` 28 and 50 p.
Instead of writing the price as ` 28 and 50 p (which
takes up a lot of space), the people in the shop have
used a special symbol for the word ‘and’.
` 28.50
Note that they have not written a ‘p’ after the 50 paise.
` 15 and 5p is written as ` 15.05.
` 10 and 3p is written as ` 10.03.
Now complete this table :
Long form Short form Long form Short form
` 95 and 45 p ` 95.45 ` 86.75
` 108.20 ` 114.05
` 216 and 95 p ` 1002 and 5 p
` 312.60 ` 3019 and 15 p
` 590.85 ` 861 and 80 p
` 1000 and 10 p ` 1096.25
` 982 and 35 p ` 488 and 0 p
