Word Problems

There were 6 children. Each child ate 2 bananas. How many bananas

were eaten in all? Bananas eaten were 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2, as each

child ate 2 bananas.

So, 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 × 2 = 12

Let us make the statements.

Number of children = 6

Bananas eaten by each child = × 2

Total bananas eaten = 1 2

\ 12 bananas were eaten in all.
