Double Digit Subtraction

            Without Borrowing

When we subtract two digit numbers, we have to follow some rules. Let

            us look at these rules.

            Example : Subtraction : 64 – 32
                                                               T O First, subtract

                                                                                             the ones.
                                                                6 4
                      Then, subtract
                                                          – 3 2
                          the tens.

                                              T O

                                              6 4 The difference

                                        – 3 2 is 32.

                                              3 2

            Now, look at the following.

Step 1 : Subtract the ones.

                          4 ones – 2 ones = 2 ones

Write 2 in the ones column.

Step 2 : Subtract the tens.

                          6 tens – 3 tens = 3

Write 3 in the tens column.

                          Therefore, 64 – 32 = 32.
