1 Direct and Indirect Speechirect and Indirect Speechirect and Indirect Speech
There are two ways of reporting the speech of any speaker. They are –
Direct and Indirect Speech. If the actual words said by the speaker are
used, it will be a Direct Speech and if the words are reported in your
own words, it is said to be an Indirect Speech .

Rules for changing direct speech into indirect speech
1. Change in Tense
G If the reporting verb is in present or future tense, the tense of the verb in the
reported speech will not be changed.
Read the following examples:
1. Direct : Yash says, “It cold.”is
Indirect : Yash says that it cold.is
2. Direct : He will say, “Good music makes a good film.”
Indirect : He will say that good music makes a good film.
