G A poster is a card carrying some announcement, advertisement, etc.
G A poster is always visually very attractive and eye-catching besides being readable
from a certain distance. It is usually put up on notice or bulletin boards in the
organisation and posted on walls in the public or private places.
G A poster is always prepared with a particular target audience in mind essentially a
very brief communication with a powerful visual and a powerful message.
G Visuals are of great help in enhancing the overall impact of a poster on readers’ mind
as it is aptly said that a picture is worth 1000 words.
G One interesting thing in making a poster is that the students have full freedom to use
any style and size of letters. Usually one full page should be used for writing a poster.
G Remember to put the poster in a box so that it can help to attract the attention of the
readers little more than usual.
Basic elements that a poster should have in it are :
G Theme / Topic / Event
G Purpose and / or Occasion
G Short description of the event or occasion.
G Date, time and place
G A message of appeal, awareness, caution, warning or invitation
G Slogans, Catchy phrases
G Name of the individual / organisation issuing it.
If necessary, where can additional information be found.
G The theme should be clearly stated. Usually a slogan may add more meaning to
the theme of the poster.
G The slogan can be given in a bubble or printed in bold letters so that it stands out.
G The message or the information should be given in the fewest possible words.
G Leave enough space between images and text.
G Use different size fonts for heading, sub-heading and text.
