Types of Pronouns

             There are nine types of pronouns. These are:

               Personal Pronouns                      Reflexive Pronouns                Emphatic Pronouns

               Demonstrative Pronouns                 Indefinite Pronouns               Interrogative Pronouns


               Distributive Pronouns                  Reciprocal Pronouns               Relative Pronouns

             G     Personal Pronouns are those pronouns that are used for persons and things, such as
                   I we you he she it they,   ,   ,   ,   ,  ,   .

                   Pronouns of the first person refer to the person or person speaking. These includes I,
                   we, me, us, mine, ours.

                   Pronouns of the second person refer to the person or persons spoken to and include
                   you and yours.

                   Pronouns of the third person refer to the person or thing spoken of. These includes
                   he, she, him, her, hers, they, them, theirs, it.

             G     Reflexive  Pronouns  are  used  when  the  subject  and  the  object  in  a  sentence  are

                   same. They are formed by adding self         or selves  to the personal pronouns.
                   Read the following examples:

                   1.  They laughed at themselves        .

                   2.  She finished her homework herself         .

                   The various forms of Reflective Pronouns are:

                                   Person                   Singular                 Plural


                                   First                    myself                   ourselves
                                   Second                   yourself                 yourselves


                                   Third                    himself                  themselves

                                                            herself

                                                            itself


             G     Emphatic Pronouns are used along with nouns or pronouns for the sake of emphasis.
                   Read the following examples:

                   1.  The queen herself       visited the school.

                   2.  We ourselves      went to see the concert.
