Case
The different types of case are as follows:
Nominative Case : When a noun is used as the subject of a verb, it is said to be in
nominative case.
Read the following examples:
1. Sumit ate ice cream.
2. The jug is empty.
In sentence 1, Sumit is the subject of the verb ate .
In sentence 2, jug is the subject of the verb .is
Objective or Accusative Case : When a noun is used as the object of a verb, it is said to
be in objective or accusative case.
Read the following examples:
1. Sumit ate ice cream .
2. Teacher gave Rahul the first prize.
In sentence 1, ice cream is the object of the verb ate .
In sentence 2, Rahul is the object of the verb gave .
Possessive Case : When a noun shows possession, it is said to be in the possessive case.
Read the following examples:
1. Mira’s bag is on the table.
2. Neha lost Ruchi’s notebook.
In sentence 1, Mira’s bag means the bag belongs to Mira.
In sentence 2, Ruchi’s notebook means the notebook belongs to Ruchi.

3. The table is made of wood.
4. Sahib is an intelligent boy.
5. The king helped the poor people.
B. Underline the nouns in objective case.
1. Namit read a story last night.
