We live in Delhi, the capital of India. We are Indians.

Sonam said, “We have an extra class today.”
Punctuation is an integral part of writing. The meaning of a sentence can be deciphered
clearly if punctuation marks are placed correctly.
The uses of different punctuation marks are as follows:
1. Fullstop ( . ): It is used to end a sentence. It is used at the end of all Assertive and
Imperative sentences.
Read the following examples:
1. We have done our homework. (Assertive)
2. Learn this poem by heart. (Imperative)
It is also used after the initials or abbreviations.

2. Comma ( , ): It is used to separate words in a list and to indicate short pauses in a
sentence.
Read the following examples:
1. Namit, Sahil, Himanshu and Manik are my friends. (nouns)
2. My brother is tall, handsome and honest. (adjectives)
3. If you want anything, let me know. (short pauses)
3. Question Mark ( ? ): It is used after an Interrogative sentence.
Read the following examples:
1. Which is your book?
2. Is she your sister?
4. Exclamation Mark (!): It is used after an Exclamatory sentence, phrase or interjection.
Read the following example:
Hurrah! We won the match.
5. Colon ( : ): It represents a greater pause than that indicated by a semicolon. It is
used to state a quotation. It is also used to introduce the list.
