Rain is the main source of water. When it rains, rainwater collects in
lakes, ponds and rivers. Some rainwater goes deep into the ground.

This water is known as groundwater.

With the help of handpumps, wells and tubewells, groundwater is
              drawn out.

In summers, the snow of mountains melts and changes in water.
This water then flows into rivers and lakes. Rivers are smaller than

              seas and oceans.

Oceans and seas are big water bodies. But, we cannot use sea and
ocean water as it is salty.

              How Water Becomes Dirty?

Water becomes dirty when harmful substances mix into the water.

Human beings throw plastics, waste etc. in the rivers. The factories

chemical waste water is also thrown into the rivers. Thus water gets
polluted. It is harmful for all living beings. We should not drink

polluted water. We may fall sick by using this water. We should try

              not to pollute the water.

              Saving Water

Water is precious. We should not waste it. Drinking water is becoming

scarce these days. Save as much water as possible for the future.

g Turn off the tap when not in use.

              g Store water in containers.

              g Do not pollute water.
g Use the two bucket method to clean the

                     vehicles.
