Verification : Dividend = Quotient × Divisor + Remainder

63 = 9 × 7 + 0

= 63 + 0

= 63 (verified)

With Remainder

Example : Divide 82 by 9.

Solution :

Step 1 : Read the multiplication table of 9 till you get the number 82
or nearest to it.

9 × 8 = 72
– 8 1
9 × 9 = 81
0 1

9 × 10 = 90

Step 2 : We cannot subtract 90 from 82.

We multiply 9 × 9 and write 81 below 82.

Subtract 81 from 82 and write the difference below it.

Write 9 at the place of quotient.

Step 3 : After subtracting of 81 from 82, we get 1 as a remainder.

\ Quotient = 9, Remainder = 1

Verification : Dividend = Quotient × Divisor + Remainder

82 = 9 × 9 + 1

= 81 + 1

= 82 (verified)
