P. 72

Step 3 : Multiply 4 hundred by 6. Th H T O
                          i.e. 4 hundred × 6 = 24 hundreds 1 3
                                                                                                       4 2 5
Add 1 hundred (carried over) to 24 hundreds.
                                                                                                       x 6
                          24 hundreds + 1 hundred = 25 hundreds
                                                                                                 2 5 5 0
                          25 hundreds = 2 thousands + 5 hundreds.

Write 5 in hundreds place and 2 in thousands place.

                          Thus, 425 × 6 = 2550.

            Multiplication by 10, 100 and 1000

H To multiply a number by 10, we put one 0 (zero) to the right column.

                   For example : 58 × 10 = 580 32 × 10 = 320

H To multiply a number by 100, we put two 0 (zeros) to the right

                   column.

                   For example : 96 × 100 = 9600 28 × 100 = 2800

H To multiply a number by 1000, we put three 0 (zeros) to the right

                   column.
                   For example : 85 × 1000 = 85000 16 × 1000 = 16000
