The short form of gram is ‘g’ and kilogram is ‘kg’.

Conversion

H To convert kilogram into grams, put three zeroes after the given
number of kilograms.

H To convert kilogram and gram into grams, convert kilogram into gram

and add the given grams to it.

Example : Convert into grams.

a. 5 kg = 5 × 1000 g = 5000 g

b. 8 kg = 8 × 1000 g = 8000 g

c. 9 kg = 9 × 1000 g = 9000 g

d. 6 kg 400 g= 6 × 1000 g + 400 g = 6400 g

e. 9 kg 24 g = 9 × 1000 g + 24 g

= 9000 g + 24 g = 9024 g

Example : Convert into kilograms and grams.

a. 1000 g = 1 kg b. 4000 g = 4 kg

c. 9000 g = 9 kg

d. 8426 g = 8000 g + 426 g = 8 kg 426 g

e. 5920 g = 5000 g + 920 g = 5 kg 92 g

To convert grams into kilograms or kilograms into grams, we separate the

ones, tens and hundreds digits from the given number of grams. The

number thus formed by ones, tens and hundreds digits gives us the grams

and the remaining number gives us the kilograms.
