In many parts of the world the units named below are used. These were
used in our country also until these were replaced by metric units after
independence.
Measurement of Length
Length is usually measured in metre. Longer distances are measured in
kilometres and smaller lengths in centimetres.
Metre is the standard unit of measurement of length. But when we have to
measure either shorter length or longer length (distance) we also use two
specific types of units.
Centimetre (cm) for shorter length.
Kilometre (km) for longer length.
100 cm = 1 m
1000 m = 1 km

Rules
H To convert metres into centimetres multiply ‘m’ by 100.
H To convert metres and centimetres into centimetres, multiply metres
by 100 and add the ‘cm’ to it.
H To convert kilometres into metres, multiply it by 1000.
H To convert kilometres and metre into metre multiply kilometres by
1000 and add the metre to it.
