What You Need :

Paper plates of same size with markings as shown in the figure.

Procedure :

Step 1 : One student is asked to place the 50 p portions on ` 1 plate so that it

is completely covered.

Step 2 : Students of the class observe that two sections of 50 paise coins cover

` 1 plate.

Step 3 : Ask the second student to place 25 paise portions to cover ` 1 plate.

Step 4 : Students of the class observe and write the number of sections of 25
paise portions that cover ` 1 plate.

Step 5 : Similarly, try with 10 paise portions.

Observations :

50 p + 50 p = ` 1

25 p + 25 p + 25 p + 25 p = ` 1

10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p + 10 p = ` 1
