Subtraction of 2–Digit Numbers from 3-Digit Numbers
With Regrouping H T O
Example : Subtract 68 from 214. 2 1 4
Step 1 : Arrange the numbers in
– 8 9
ones, tens and hundreds
columns.
1 ten
Step 2 : We cannot subtract 9
2 hundreds + 1 ten + 4 ones
ones from 4 ones as 9 >
– 8 ten + 9 ones
4. So 1 ten is borrowed
from the tens column to
make it 14 ones. 1 hundred
Step 3 : Subtract 9 ones from 14
ones. We get 5 ones in 2 hundreds + 0 ten + 14 ones
the ones column. – 8 ten + 9 ones
Step 4 : Now, in the tens column
5 ones
we have 0 tens. We
cannot subtract 8 tens
from 0 tens. So, 1
hundred is borrowed 1 hundreds + 10 ten + 14 ones
from the hundreds – 8 ten + 9 ones
column to make 10 tens.
1 hundred + 2 tens + 5 ones
Subtracting 8 tens from
10 tens, we get 2 tens in
the tens column.
