G Verbs of feelings and emotions like love, respect, etc.
G Verbs showing possession like belong, own, etc.
G Verbs of senses like hear, see, etc.
G Verbs of mental states and activity like know, think, suppose, etc.
G Some other verbs like appear, seem, measure, etc.
The above mentioned verbs are called non-progressive or non-action verbs because there
is no action being performed. Since no action is performed, there is nothing that can
continue or stop. These verbs usually describe states rather than actions .
G Use of have .
It is used to –
· mean possession, whenever ‘have’ is used to suggest possession, it can be used
only in the simple present tense.
· However, it can be used in some other cases also.
Read the following examples:
1. I have a new book at home. (possession)
2. The teacher has a headache. (possession)
3. He is having his lunch. (eating)
4. Rachit is having his bath. (taking)
5. The students are having much fun. (experiencing)
