G Adverbs are formed in the following ways:
a. By adding ‘–ly’ to adjectives; as– quickly, slowly, wisely, kindly, happily, etc.
b. By adding ‘–ly’ to noun; as– daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, timely, etc.
c. By adding ‘–ly’ to participles; as– hurriedly, lovingly, etc.
d. A few adverbs are formed by adding ‘a’ or a preposition too.
Adjectives; as –
anew, alone, beyond, afresh, along, between, behind, etc.
Adverbs; as –
hereby, thereby, henceforth, whereof, herein.
Nouns; as –
ahead, aside, abroad, asleep, beside, today, tomorrow, ashore, abed, etc.
e. Some adverbs are formed by combining a noun and an adjective; as –
meantime, sometimes, homewards, yesterday, midway, afterwards, straight away.
Adverbs of Number are formed as:
one Ý once, two Ý twice,
three Ý thrice, four Ý fourfold.
