Degree of Comparison
Adjectives of Quality have three degrees of comparison. They are:
Positive Degree Comparative Degree Superlative Degree
G The Positive degree describes the individual quality of a noun.
Read the following examples:
1. Ritika is a thin girl.
2. Neha is a strong girl.
G The Comparative degree is used to compare two persons or things having the same
quality.
Read the following examples:
1. Bihar is hotter than Assam.
2. The Ganga river is longer than the Saraswati.
G The Superlative degree is used when more than two persons or things are
compared. It is used for the most outstanding single one from all of the rest.
Read the following examples:
1. Shatabdi Express is the fastest among all the
trains.
2. The Ganga is the longest among all the rivers. We use ‘the’ (definite
article) before or with a
superlative degree.
