Synonyms
The words which have the similar meaning are called synonyms .
For example:
1. answer – reply 2. brave – bold
Antonyms
The words which have opposite meanings are called antonyms .
For example:
1. give – take 2. bright – dull
Homophones
The words which have the same pronunciation but different meanings and
different spellings are called homophones .
For example:
1. dear and deer 2. flour and flower
Compound Words
When two or more words are put together to form a new word with a new
meaning, they are called compound words .
For example:
1. star + fish = starfish 2. foot + ball = football
One Word Substitution
1. A group of judges Jury
2. An unmarried woman Spinster
3. An experienced person Veteran
4. A thing that is fit to be eaten Edible
5. One who eats vegetables only Vegetarian
6. One who knows too many languages Linguist
