colour and asked him to be the king of the forest. The other animals believed
him and obeyed him. One day the blue jackal was sitting on a high rock.
Suddenly he heard the howling of other jackals from the surroundings. He

forgot himself for a moment. He also howled in a loud voice. A lion saw this.
He caught the blue jackal and killed him.

Moral: Never hide your true self.

                                         3. The Goose and the Greedy Man

Once upon a time a man and his

wife had a goose. It laid a golden
egg every day. Lucky though they

were, they soon began to think they
were not getting rich fast enough.

They imagined that if the bird is
able to lay golden eggs, must have

lots of gold inside And they thought
that if they could get all that

precious metal at once, they would get mighty rich very soon. So, the man
and his wife decided to kill the bird. However, upon cutting the goose open,

they were shocked to find that there was nothing inside. Now, they could do
             nothing but to cry.

             Moral: Think before you act.

                                           4. The Ant and the Grasshopper

Two friends lived in a garden – an ant and a grasshopper. It was a pleasant

summer morning. There were leaves, flowers and fruits everywhere. The
grasshopper ate his favourite leaves, wandered here and there and slept

soundly. But the ant ate some food and worked hard to collect enough food
for the winter. She told the grasshopper to store some food in the house. The

grasshopper did not care. He was lazy. When winter came, it became cold.
There were no leaves, flowers or fruits. The ant ate the food she had stored.

She stayed in her house happily. The grasshopper had nothing to eat. He

                                                                   89
