What is Transportation?

The movement of people and goods from one place to another by

means of a vehicle, aircraft or ship is called transportation.

Various Means of Transport

All the means used for travelling and carrying goods from one place to

another are called means of transport. Based on what medium these
means of transport are used for movement, we classify them into three

groups— land transport, water transport and air transport.

Land Transport

This mode of transport is of two types—road and railway. Trucks, buses,
cars, cycle, rickshaw, tonga, bullock-cart are means of road transport.

Railways use the rails on which railway engines and carriages move. A

train has many carriages that can carry between 100 to 1000 person at
a time. Buses carry between 50 to 100 persons at a time.
