Microsoft Excel was first released for Macintosh systems in the year 1985, followed by the
first Windows version in 1987.
Features of Excel 2016
Print Worksheets : You can produce a hard copy of a worksheet you have created.
Before printing, you can see on the screen how the worksheet will look when printed.
Excel also allows you to adjust the margins or change the size of data to be printed.
Create Charts and Objects : Excel helps you to create colourful charts from worksheet
data to visually display the data. You can also create objects, such as AutoShapes,
WordArt and diagrams to enhance the appearance of a worksheet and illustrate
important concepts.
Edit and Format Data : You can easily enter, edit and format data in a worksheet. You
can quickly enter a series of numbers, find and replace data or check data for
spelling errors. You can also make data stand out in a worksheet by adding borders
or changing the font, colour, style or alignment of the data.
Using Formulae and Functions : You can perform calculations and analyse data in a
worksheet by using relevant formulae and functions. Finding the sum, average or total
number of values in a list are some common calculations. As you work, Excel checks
the formulae for problems and can
help you correct common errors in the
formulae.
In Excel, a cell is a rectangular box that
occurs at the intersection of a vertical
column and a horizontal row in a
worksheet. Vertical columns are
numbered with alphabetic values such
as A, B, C. Horizontal rows are
numbered with numeric values such as
1, 2, 3.
Here, you can see that E7 is selected.
A cell can only store one piece of data
at a time. You can store data in a cell such as a formula, text value, numeric value or
date value.
