6. There are 352786 students in Class III, 321845 students in Class IV and 253756 students in

Class V in the schools of a city. Find the total number of students reading in Class III, IV
and V. Among these students 602345 are girls. Find the number of students who are boys.

Multiplication

The number to be multiplied is called multiplicand and the number by which we
multiply is called multiplier . The result of multiplication is called product .

A multiplication problem may be written horizontally.
A multiplication problem may be written vertically.

Multiplication of a 4-Digit Number by a 2-Digit Number

Example : Multiply 6532 × 17.

Solution :

Multiplication of a 4-Digit Number by a 3-Digit Number

Example : Multiply 2359 by 465.

Solution : Method 1 : 2359 × 465

= 2359 × (400 + 60 + 5)

= 2359 × 400 + 2359 × 60 + 2359 × 5

= 943600 + 141540 + 11795

= 1096935
