P. 124
Example : Mrs Neelam went for shopping at 10:45 a.m. and returned at
11:55 a.m. How long was she away from her home ?
Solution : 10:45 a.m. 15 min 11:00 a.m. 55 min 11:55 a.m.
15 minutes + 55 minutes = 70 minutes
70 minutes = 60 minutes + 10 minutes
= 1 hour + 10 minutes
So, Mrs Neelam was away from her home for 1 hour 10 minutes.
Example : Mr Sharma goes to work at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 6:15 p.m.
How long he is away from his home ?
Solution : 9:30 a.m. 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. 6:15 p.m.
30 minutes 8 hours 15 minutes
30 minutes + 8 hours + 15 minutes = 8 hours 45 minutes
So, Mr Sharma is away from his home for 8 hours 45 minutes.
To Find the Finishing Time
You can find the finishing time, if you know the starting time and the
duration of an activity.
Example : The Patna-Kolkata flight takes 1 hour 50 minutes. The plane
takes off at 6:20 p.m. from Patna, when does it reach Kolkata ?
Solution : Time 1 hour after 6 : 20 p.m. is 7 : 20 p.m.
Time 50 minutes after 7 : 20 p.m. is 8 : 10 p.m.
So, the flight will reach at 8 : 10 p.m.
Example : The lunch break during the cricket match started at 11:55 a.m. If
the lunch break is for 25 minutes, when will it get over ?
Solution : 11:55 a.m. + 5 minutes = 12:00 noon
12:00 noon + 20 minutes = 12:20 p.m.
So, the lunch break gets over at 12:20 p.m.
Example : The second half of the match was for 1 hour 10 minutes.
If it started at 12:05 p.m. When did it finish ?
