4 Multiplication

Looking Back

Multiplication means repeated addition.

It is the easiest and the quickest way to find the sum of equal amounts.

‘×’ sign is called multiply.

Here, we add 3 up to 5 times.

3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15

We get the answer 15.

If we multiply 3 by 5, i.e., 3 × 5 = 15, we get the answer 15.

Result of multiplication is called the product .

Now, look at the following.

We write this fact as : 5 x 3 = 15 It is called product
