1 Four-Digit Numbers
Looking Back
You have learnt two-digit numbers. Every number is 1 more than the
number before it. The greatest two-digit number you learnt was ninety-nine.
It is written as 99.
You also learnt that— in a 2-digit number, the numeral on the left tells the
number of tens.
Thus, 99 means 9 tens and 9 more.
Now, look at the following.

90 + 9 + 1 = 1 hundred

9 tens + 1 ten = 1 hundred
10 tens = 1 hundred
