Telling the Time

Observe the following clocks to see the time.

Minute hand is at 12 Minute hand is at 12 Minute hand is at 12
Hour hand is at 3 Hour hand is at 4 Hour hand is at 6

Time = 3 O’ clock Time = 4 O’ clock Time = 6 O’ clock

Telling the Time Half Hour

In this clock, the hour hand is between 7 and 8 and the
minute hand points to 6. The shaded part shows that the

long hand or minute hand has moved half way round.

When the minute hand moves — way round on the

face of the clock, half an hour has passed and we say

that it is half past seven.

\ Half past seven can also be written as 7 : 30.

Also, 60 minutes = 1 hour,

30 minutes = One-half of an hour

11 : 30 6 : 30 10 : 30

30 minutes to 12 (half past 6) (half past 10)

30 to 12 30 to 7 30 to 11
