We will now learn about the Position of Adverbs . The position of adverbs is very
important in a sentence. Some adverbs are placed at the beginning, some in the middle,
while others at the end.
G Adverbs of Manner: They answer the question how ? They can be placed at the
beginning, in the middle or in the end of the sentence.
Read the following examples:
1. Bravely , he fought with the thieves.
2. He bravely fought with the thieves.
3. He fought with the thieves bravely .
G Adverbs of Place: They answer the question where ? They usually come after the verb.
Read the following examples:
1. Can you come over here ?
2. They live in a hotel .
G Adverbs of Time: They answer the question when ? They usually come after the
adverbs of place.
Read the following examples:
1. I’m not staying long .
2. He goes to school everyday .
G Sometimes, adverbs of time are placed in the beginning also.
Read the following examples:
1. Today , I am going to clean the house.
2. Every morning my parents go for a walk.
G If there are more than one adverb in a sentence, then the order is –
manner + place + time
Read the following example:
They left suddenly for the hillstation at 1 pm.
