             Words Often Confused (Homophones)

             1.  bore:    a boring or a tiresome person or a thing
                  He is such a bore when he talks about his family.

                  boar:  a male pig

                  Wild boars are very fierce.
             2.  aid:   help or assistance given

                  Every Christmas, the communities give aid to the poor people.
                  aide:  a person who helps

                  Mrs Das worked five years as the minister’s aide.
             3.  brake:    to stop

                  You should apply brake slowly on wet roads.

                  break:   to smash
                  He could break the window pane with a stick.

             4.  alternately:   taking turns
                  We paddled alternately so neither of us would get too tired.

                  alternatively:  an option
                  Instead of going by car, we could have gone alternatively by a flight.

             5.  bazar:    an exhibition, market or fair
                  The Friday bazaar is worth seeing even if you buy nothing.

                  bizarre:  weird or unworldly
                  He gave a bizzare explanation for his absence.

             6.  almost:    nearly all
                  Almost all my friends are going on a picnic next month.

                  most:   the superlative of ‘more’, meaning the greatest or to the highest degree
                  She is the most intelligent girl in my class.
