Types of Sentences
There are four types of sentences.
Assertive or Declarative Sentences Interrogative Sentences
Imperative Sentences Exclamatory Sentences

opinion is called an assertive or declarative
sentence. It ends with a full stop ( ). .
Read the following examples:
1. The peacock is our National Bird.

G Sentences which begin with a question
word are said to be interrogative sentences .

1. Have you seen the Red Fort?
2. Do they have enough food?

G A sentence that makes a request or gives order command advice or
suggestion is called an imperative sentence . It ends with a full stop . ( ).
Read the following examples:
1. Give me a glass of water, please. (request)
2. Close the window. (order)
G A sentence that expresses a strong feeling or emotion is called an exclamatory
sentence.
Read the following examples:
1. Oh! The princess is really pretty.
2. Alas ! The poor man is dead.
