A sentence is a group of words. A sentence should make complete sense
when you read or write it.
Features of sentences are as follows:
G Must contain a subject and a verb.
G Always begins with a capital letter.
G Ends with a fullstop, question mark or an
exclamation mark.
Every sentence is made of two parts:
The Subject The Predicate
G In a sentence, the person or thing about which something is being said is
called the subject .
G What we say about the subject or what the subject does is said to be the
predicate of the sentence.
Read the following examples:
1. The girl is singing.
Subject Predicate
2. Delhi is a large city.
3. Reema is singing.
4. Madhu has a beautiful dress.
5. Sohan is playing Hockey.
6. She is my sister.
Here, the coloured words are subjects and the words in boxes are predicates.
