P. 8

A sentence is a group of words. A sentence should make complete sense
when you read or write it.

Features of sentences are as follows:

G Must contain a subject and a verb.

G Always begins with a capital letter.

G Ends with a fullstop, question mark or an
                   exclamation mark.

Every sentence is made of two parts:

                         The Subject The Predicate

G In a sentence, the person or thing about which something is being said is
                   called the subject .

G What we say about the subject or what the subject does is said to be the

                   predicate of the sentence.

             Read the following examples:

             1. The girl is singing.

                     Subject Predicate

             2. Delhi is a large city.

             3. Reema is singing.

             4. Madhu has a beautiful dress.

             5. Sohan is playing Hockey.

             6. She is my sister.

Here, the coloured words are subjects and the words in boxes are predicates.
