Kinds of Tenses
Tenses can be divided mainly into three categories. They are:
Present Tense Past Tense Future Tense
G Present Tense tells us about the action which is happening now. We use -s
or -es with the first form of verb when the subject is singular.
Read the following examples:
1. Suhaani eats an apple daily.
2. The sun rises in the east.
Present Continuous Tense tells us about the work which is happening right
now. We use first form of verb + ing and is, am, are according to the subject.
Read the following examples:
1. Megha is cooking a cake.
2. I am playing with my toy.
3. The students are carrying their bags.
G Simple Past Tense tells us about the action which has already happened.
We use the following rules for forming past tense verbs. We use second
form of verb in the sentence.
We add -ed to the verbs to make it second form of the verb.
paint painted play played
bake baked watch watched
Read the following examples:
1. Namit painted the fence blue.
2. She danced for long in the party.
3. Shobhit learnt his lesson carefully.
