Action  words  are  called  verbs          .  A  verb  describes  an  action,  a  fact  and  a

             possession.

             Read the following examples:

                   The boy sings     .


                   Manik laughs      .

             All the coloured words are verbs. These kind of verbs are called main verbs                          .

             Read the following examples:


             1.  Tarini screamed         when she saw        the lion.

             2.  Appu runs        very fast.

             In the above sentences, the coloured words are main verbs.

             Verbs  that  connect  the  subject  to  a  noun  or  an  adjective  are  called  linking

             verbs.

             Read the following examples:

             1.  The magician was           clever.


             2.  The dog   very cute.is

             Some  verbs  are  used  before  the  main  verbs  to  tell  more  about  the  action.

             They are called helping verbs          .

             The most commonly used helping verbs are:


                   is            am              are             was

                   were          can            will             has


                   had           have           could            may


             Read the following examples:

             1.  Karuna   is enjoying the rain.

             2.  I will   write a letter to my mother.
