Use of Article A                                                                 A or  An are used

             A is used before nouns that begins with a consonant                                  before one
                                                                                               person or thing.
             or consonant sound.

                               a fan                         a bottle                                 a book


             Use of Article An

             An is used before nouns that begin with a vowel or vowel sound. a, e, i, o and

             u are called vowels       .

             Read the following examples:




                                                                                            An is also used before
                                                                                              a word that begins
                                                                                            with an ‘h’, but where
                                                                                                the ‘h’ is silent.
              an apple                       an axe                  an umbrella
                                                                                             e.g. An  honest man.
             Use of Article The

             The is always used when we refer to something specific.

             For example :

                   a sparrow

                   The sparrow is a common bird.

             The is also used before certain specific proper nouns.
