46 Importance of Vitamins in Our Life
Vitamins are substances that your body needs to grow and develop normally. It’s
important to get vitamins in your diet.
Read about the vitamins carefully.
1. Vitamin A : It is a general health-giving vitamin. It promotes
good eye-sight. Its deficiency causes night blindness. It is
present in milk, butter, egg-yolk, ghee, carrot and green leafy
vegetables.
2. Vitamin B : Vitamin B complex is a mixture of several
vitamins. It protects the body from nerve diseases such as
beri-beri and pellagra. It also cures pernicious anaemia. It is
found in cereals, peas, beans, liver and vegetables.
3. Vitamin C : It ensures healthy teeth, bones and protects the
body against scurvy. It is found in vegetables, orange, lemon,
lettuce, turnip and mango.
4. Vitamin D : This vitamin is essential for children for the
development of strong bones and teeth. Lack of this vitamin
leads to a disease known as rickets. This vitamin is found in
milk, butter, cod-liver oil, cheese, yolk , fish, etc.
5. Vitamin E : This vitamin plays a vital role in the process of
reproduction. Its absence causes sterility. It is present in
germinating wheat.
6. Vitamin K : This vitamin helps in the clotting of blood. Its
absence causes haemorrhage. It is present in fish, oats and
wheat.
