31                     Brave Hearts








            Many  famous  personalities,  who  were  either  born  with  disability  or  they

            met with tragic incidents, have made a place for themselves in the world.
            Their  never-say-die-attitude  has  served  as  an  undying  inspiration  and

            motivation for those who have to battle with disabilities.

            Let us meet some special people who have defeated all the obstacles of
            life.

            Bharat  Kumar  was  born  with  a  right  hand  by  birth,  but  his
            physical disability never dissuade him from pursuing his dreams.
            Born on December 10,1989, Bharat Kumar a world champion, has
            made  Bharat  (India)  proud  by  winning  over  50  medals  is  para-
            swimming contests.


            In 2009, Stephen Hawking became totally paralysed. Despite of his
            physical disabilities, he became one of the greatest scientists of the
            world. His IQ score was 160 that belongs to a genius group—only
            0.003%  of  the  world  population.  This  great  cosmologist  passed

            away on 14th March 2018.

            Arunima Sinha lost her left leg in an accident on April 11, 2011.
            She did not give up the spirit of her life and on May 21, 2013 she
            became  the  world’s  first  Indian  woman  with  one  leg  to  climb

            Mount  Everest  and  added  another  impressive  record  to  climb
            Mount  Vinson,  the  highest  peak  of  Antarctica,  with  the  help  of
            her artificial leg.


            Sudha Chandran is a famous actress and dancer. She lost one of
            her legs in a car accident when she was very young. Yet she kept

            on dancing with her artificial leg and has won several awards.




            Helen  Keller  was  blind  and  deaf,  but  she  became  the  first
            specially  abled  person  to  earn  a  college  degree.  She  became  an
            inspiration to many disabled persons.
